Link of the Week (or Whenever): Bo Being Bo
May 20th, 2009
May 20, 2009 — Still one of the most amazing athletes I’ve ever seen. Sadly, I never watched Bo play baseball in real life. I did watch him play football, once. I was living in Seattle back then, and I witnessed the “Monday Night Fiasco” that pitted Bo against The Boz. Turns out Bo was the real deal. The Boz? Nothing more than 99¢ fast-food combo.
Browsing through the football highlights, something odd caught my eye. See if you notice it too. Clue: He does it after every play, except for the very last one. Still don’t get it? Read Joe Posnanski’s retrospective for another clue. . .Your friend in baseball.

The Man

The Bat
The Homer
Bo asks for time out, steps out of the box, realizes he didn’t
get it and jumps back in time to nail a 3-run homer.
The Throw
It’s a deep double to left. Fleet-footed Reynolds at first base, takes off on contact with the game-winning run in his back pocket. And, . . .surprise!
The Catch
Highlight #3: I’ve been looking for this clip for years.
The Shoes
The Running Game
My favorite play: Bo meets Ronnie Lott at the down marker, and runs out of bounds. [time, 2:53]
