Link of the Week (or Whenever): A Little Love for Host Families

June 12, 2009 — In case you hadn’t noticed, Opening Day for the Orem Owlz is fast approaching, June 23. Last year’s batting coach, Brenton Del Chiaro, has moved up the ladder to the Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels. I’m thrilled to note former Salt Lake first baseman Mike Eylward will be this season’s hitting coach for the Rookie-A team. Last and certainly not least. . .I have described the valuable service provided by host families. This season Benjamin Hill has written a lovely reminder, “Host Families Make Players Feel at Home.” If you’re a baseball fan (or someone who likes having kids around) living in the Orem area, consider reaching out and offering a helping hand to these youngsters.
